Galactic Center
Description
The nucleus of the Milky Way Galaxy observed with the VLA at 1.3 cm at an angular resolution of 0.1 arcsec. Sgr A* (a compact radio source), located in the middle of this image, is believed to be associated with the supermassive black hole at the Galactic center. The extended emission surrounding Sgr A* is the hot ionized gas within the central 16 arcsec region or 2 light years in linear scale. The psuedo-color scale indicates the radiation intensity.
This image was made from A and B array data at 1.3 cm.
